Wood inserts are fireboxes designed to be inserted into old, poorly functioning fireplaces to restore them back to full operation. Wood inserts can also be used to create new fireplaces.

Wood inserts use wood combustion to produce warm air to heat the room in which they are installed and/or the adjacent rooms (using appropriate ducting); the warm air may be circulated using natural convection or a forced ventilation system.
